The 5th graders had an opportunity to view a video clip on everyday rhythms in a performance called STOMP OUT LOUD! The performers are New York dancers and musicians who recently toured the Twin Cities.

Lots of melodies and harmonies happening in the 5th grade music class! Ask your 5th grader which melodies also give us an example of syncopated rhythm! They can also name the voices in a choir (from highest to lowest), state what the difference is between unison and a cappella, and tell you which songs they have sung which have a countermelody or can be sung as partner songs...

This week the 5th graders have been making Halloween harmony through canons (The Ghost of John and The Horseman!) In addition, the 5th grade cantors experienced chordal harmony during mass!

This week we are exploring the uneven (syncopated) rhythms of The Mango Walk and an African folk song called Funga Alafia. We are also focusing on time signatures, measures, the math of rhythms, and getting ready for band! Ask you 5th grader to show you the Mango Walk!
